Overview
THE REASON
There is a crisis of epidemic proportion that puts young Black males in danger of never escaping the perpetuating circumstances that plagues their existence. Supported by extensive research, Black males are statistically placed in the bottom conundrums of many educational, health/wellness, and law related statistics. It is our contention, however, that upon further study, countless focus groups, and years of research, one will find that there are many young Black males searching for identity while at the same time trying so very hard to “do the right thing.” These are young Black males determined to be different; and, provided with the right mix of tools this challenge program provides, we guarantee that they can maximize their potential and become BADD Young Men.
WHAT IS BADD?
Black Achievers Determined to be Different (BADD) is a comprehensive challenge program designed to help young Black males in K-12 reach their full potential by establishing a BADD culture through seven researched based challenges that infuse engaging activities, and interactive experiences, all with rewarding outcomes in a culture of brotherhood and belonging. The program begins with an initial teambuilding camp, leading into an engaging seven challenge curriculum that leads them from Character to Conviction, supported by an interactive DVD, a synchronized website, a brotherhood of adult Black males, and other support mechanisms. These proven strategies address a variety of student learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
The impetus of the program is to help close the academic achievement gap between Black males and their counterparts through this innovative near peer model as measured in three distinct categories: Academics, Attitude, and Attendance. After successfully completing the program, our goal is for members to have developed academic and life skills to make a seamless transition to the next grade level or lifelong endeavors and ultimately become self-actualized, confident, proud, and responsible young men. Once the young men learn to be BADD, they are BADD4LIFE!
